Liza Rowan, founder of Health & Vitality, is passionate about educating, motivating and inspiring all of us to be healthier - by taking control of our own nutrition and other aspects of our wellbeing. She believes that optimum health is the foundation in helping us achieve our aspirations, and ultimately to leading happier, more fulfilled lives. With the success of her programs in Singapore, Liza now offers her expertise internationally through Revitalize-in-5 online nutrition and lifestyle course.

Liza is an energetic, sporty and fun-loving mother of 2 young boys. She spent her early years in Ireland, and has since lived in Australia, Scotland, Austria, Canada, Hong Kong and now Singapore. She embraces the challenges that each ‘new life’ brings, with particular interest in all matters relating to natural and holistic living, especially nutrition.

Because it ain’t so sweet! We know that sugar does not contribute in any way towards our better health, especially refined and processed sugars. These come under many guises including brown sugar, cane sugar, dextrose, sucrose, and high fructose corn syrup.

‘Fat confusion’ is probably an understatement as we now try to accept that fats are not just good, but are critical for our better health. Abuse of the wrong types of fats (e.g. refined oils, shortening, margarines) while consuming more white foods (sugar, flour, oils) as we try to avoid natural good fats, has contributed to the rise in cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and cancer over recent decades.

Delicious cakes do not need to be unhealthy sweet bombs – if you use smaller amounts of healthier sugars including raw molasses, coconut nectar and unsulphured (blackstrap) molasses. Using these type of sugars will provide nutrients that are devoid in refined, white sugar. Blackstrap molasses, in particular, are rich in iron, calcium and have a low GI, and are therefore absorbed slowly.

I love discussing my 5 Disciplines of Health and Vitality – LAKSA. Yes, this very popular, not so healthy Asian dish, happens to be an acronym for the disciplines – but we will come up with a much healthier recipe to justify its use. In summary LAKSA represents;
