Healthy Snacking: Hot Crackers Recipe

These are great on their own as a savory snack, or topped with any spread of choice – hummus or a bean dip are perfect.

These hot crackers are loaded with the healthiest of seeds and spices, providing a mega dose of healthy omega essential fatty acids, protein and fiber, along with phytonutrients from the spices.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup brown rice flour (or wholewheat)
  • ½ cup pumpkin seeds
  • ¼ cup chia seeds
  • ¼ cup flax seeds
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tsp. each of ground chilli powder, ground cumin, turmeric

Instructions

1. Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl.

2. Stir in wet ingredients.

3. Roll dough mixture to ½ cm thin (this can be done between two sheets of baking paper).

4. Place on baking tray, and bake for 25 minutes at 375 degrees (until golden brown).

5. Cut into small squares and let cool on a wire tray.

Nutritional Benefits

Turmeric gets its pungent yellow colour from curcumin, and is best known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Hot chilli pepper contains capsaicin, which is a natural pain reliever and also helps reduce blood cholesterol. Cumin aids in digestion by stimulation enzymes, which enable nutrients from our food to be better assimilated.
