#ConnectedWomen Finalists At ITU Digital World 2021 SME Awards In Geneva

#ConnectedWomen are proud to represent the Philippines as finalists at the ITU Digital World 2021 SME Awards and 1 of 12 global finalists under the EdTech category for its work in Artificial Intelligence upskilling for Women with Elevate AIDA.

Elevate AIDA (Artificial Intelligence Data Annotation) is Connected Women’s flagship training programme launched in partnership with UN Women WeEmpowerAsia at the height of the pandemic last year. This programme aims to provide women with data annotation skills and remote work skills which are in demand in the digital economy. The graduates become part of Connected Women’s pool of gig workers who provide human-in-the-loop training data needed for organizations building Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications.

In the Philippines, around 7 million women are out of the workforce because of family commitments and lack of job opportunities; some 56% of the 2.2 million overseas Filipino workers are women. In addition to these challenges, the COVID-19 pandemic has now affected the livelihoods of over 10.9 million Filipinos. The global data annotation tools market size is expected to reach USD 6 billion by 2027. The fast growth of the AI industry means there is a growing demand for data annotators. Connected Women’s vision is to ensure that Filipino women are part of this opportunity.

This year, out of a record-breaking number of submissions ever in the history of the Awards, ITU’s distinguished jury of experts has selected Connected Women as 1 of 12 finalists for EdTech, a category showcasing companies that utilize innovative tools to expand educational programmes and capacity building, including training and relevant content in local languages.

ITU is the specialized agency of the UN for ICTs with 193 Member States, over 700 private sector entities, and 155 years of industry experience. With this program, they want to emphasize the critical role digital technologies have in accelerating development in emerging and developed markets.
