According to The Knot, this tradition comes from an old English rhyme that tells us about four objects that would bring good luck to the bride on her wedding day. Something old represents continuity; something new offers optimism for the future; something borrowed symbolises borrowed happiness; and something blue stands for purity, love and fidelity.

The first three are easy to incorporate, so let’s focus on something blue. We’ve decided to go with subtle methods rather than letting everyone know that you’re upholding the ‘something blue’ tradition.

1. Blue In Your Dress

If you can rock a blue wedding gown without looking like Cinderella or Elsa, impress us. But for most brides, they try to avoid looking like they just stepped out of a Disney movie. And besides, can we just tell you how much we love subtle accents? Think subtle blue hues at the end of your dress for a slight dip-dyed effect or even trading your white crinoline for a blue lining. We couldn’t think of better ways for something blue.

2. Blue Under Your Dress

If you’d rather conceal your ‘something blue’, why not have it embroidered under your dress. It could be your wedding date, your fiancé’s name, or both your initials, basically anything you want it to be. You could also cut a heart from your dad’s old handkerchief and have it double up as something old too.

3. Blue Shoes

Another way to conceal your something blue would be to wear blue shoes. Unless you’re wearing an asymmetrical or short wedding dress, your shoes would be covered most of the time. So get your photographer to sneak a shot of both you and your beau’s fancy footwear.

4. Manicure/Pedicure

Bridal nails don’t necessarily have to be the classic white French tipped. However, if you’re not in favour of blue nails entirely, how about some blue French tipped nails?

5. Accessories

All brides need something to hold her veil down, so why not take this chance to pick a hair comb with some blue crystals?

6. Jewellery

Keep it simple with classic jewellery ideas that don’t scream for attention but instead compliment your overall look. If you prefer going bigger, by all means go ahead! But keep in mind that your jewellery pieces do not overpower your entire look.

7. Lingerie

If the fit and material of your dress permits, pick out a pair of blue lingerie.

8. Garter

Whether you decide to upload the garter toss tradition, wearing a garter is the best way in sporting your ‘something blue’.

9. Blue In Your Bouquet

If it goes along with your wedding theme, tie a blue ribbon around the stem of your bouquet, or if the floral season permits, add in some blue hues for that wintry feel.
