Give The gift Of Education – AIDHA Empowers Foreign Domestic Workers

Nur Aini was only 19 when she came to Singapore to work as a domestic helper.

Leaving her husband and son in Semarang, Indonesia, Nur Aini was determined to give her family a better future. Sadly, she discovered that her husband had married another woman and started another family. Distraught, Nur Aini had to choose between going home or continuing to work in Singapore to provide for her son.

Like Nur Aini, thousands of women are employed in Singapore’s households as domestic helpers. Most of these ladies left their homes and families in the Philippines, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka or Myanmar and send back their hard-earned money, hoping to sow a brighter tomorrow for themselves and their families.

However, most of the women are trapped in a cruel cycle where the remittances they send month-after-month to their families is spent on living expenses and unexpected emergencies and leave her with meager savings or none at all.

Aidha
’s vision for these ladies is a sustainable future through financial education. Aidha is a NGO that focuses on giving financial education and equipping foreign domestic workers with practical skills. Students learn money management, communication, and computer skills in the first module and entrepreneurship in the second module. These skills empower them to make better choices for themselves and their families’ future.

Since enrolling at Aidha, Nur Aini saved enough money to buy a plot of land in her home town and start a business with her father. She was also able to teach English and Math to the kids in her village when she went home for a break. Her dream is to give the same opportunity to others, especially to the children in her hometown.

Consider enrolling your helper at Aidha and change her future today. Contact Aidha at 6341-5287 or visit www.aidha.org to find out more.
