FREE Gift for Dad: Take your own Family Portrait!

This Father’s Day, give dad a gift that will last forever: a family portrait.

Have your camera ready and plan all the details. Think of dad’s favorite outdoor location and take advantage of natural light, be there by 9 am or after 5 pm, when the light is nice and soft and to avoid the heat. Go in advance to scout the exact location.

Coordinate the family outfits. It’s not about everybody wearing the same t-shirt (although that is an option), but about making sure that the colors worn by everybody go well together. Establish a range of colors and ask everybody to wear them. If you have a green background, think of colors found in nature. A nice color combination for outdoor photo shoots is chocolate brown, brick orange, ivory and black. Different shades of blue, turquoise and green look nice as well. Bright colors are fine, but keep in mind that the person wearing them will stand out in the picture. Children look nice wearing them, just make sure they go well with the other outfits. Avoid white and very light colors, because they reflect light.

For groups of people, solid colors look best. Avoid patterns regardless of size. Make sure everybody wears confortable clothes. Avoid short skirts, low cuts and sleeveless shirts. Long pants are a good option, so that people can sit on the grass or on the floor. Dark colors and jackets make people look thinner and taller as do monochrome outfits (top and bottom).

Ask a friend to take the photo for you if you plan to be part of it, or use a tripod and the camera’s self timer. Don’t use a selfie stick, since you will be too close to the camera and the perspective is not going to be ideal.

Bring a bottle of wine and some sweets, so that everybody is in good mood for the photo!

If you prefer, have your portrait professionally taken. Grafika Photography & Design offers a 25% discount on any Father’s Day Photo Shoot in June. It can be a Studio Photoshoot, an Outdoor one, or a combination of both. Gift Vouchers are also available. Contact us below for details.
