Beauty is indeed for everyone. However, a decade ago, aesthetic treatments and cosmetic procedures were considered an extravagance.

This changed when Amaris B. Clinic opened its doors in Singapore catering to a wider clientele and meeting the country’s demands for beauty. The word “amaris” means “promised by God” and the “B” symbolises the passion in seeking everlasting beauty.

At the helm of this clinic is Dr. Ivan Puah who said, “In 2005, we were one of only three clinics in Singapore to offer minimally invasive body-sculpting treatments. The Doctor Behind The Clinic

Fascinated by the human body since he was a child, Dr. Ivan Puah pursued his dream of becoming an aesthetics doctor. Offered an ASEAN scholarship to study medicine in Singapore, Dr. Puah graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1997 and has been practicing medicine for 19 years. Dr. Puah accumulated his medical and surgical experiences from working in several public institutions in Singapore. He said, “During my training with National Skin Centre Singapore, I developed a profound interest in dermatology that led to further studying this specialty whereby I obtained a Graduate Diploma in Family Dermatology. This learning experience is especially useful in my practice as an aesthetic doctor.”

Dr. Puah also traveled to various countries to train in different body sculpting techniques, such as LaserLipolysis, Vaser Total Body Sculpting, Vaser Assisted High Defenition LipoSculpture, and fat transfer for body enhancements. In addition to this, Dr. Puah also received training from renowned French plastic surgeon, Dr. Pierre Francois Fournier. He said of the experience, “It is a privilege to have the opportunity to be trained by Dr. Fournier, the founding father of modern aesthetic and the inventor of syringe liposuction and various lipo-filling techniques. He is inspiring and always willing to teach and share his knowledge.”

Currently, Dr. Puah is a trainer to fellow doctors for Allergan Singapore and a newly-appointed faculty member of Allergan Medical Institute. He is also involved in seminars to educate the public on the latest trends in the field of aesthetics. He said, “The window of opportunity to be in touch with the public and to communicate with them also gave me insight on the current needs and future wants.”

A Game Changer In Singapore’s Aesthetic And Cosmetic Landscape

“When it comes to the field of medicinal science, the benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine are as immense and effective as their Western counterparts,” Dr. Puah said. Understanding this, Amaris B. Clinic has successfully intertwined aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine into the services they provide.

Moreover, the clinic became the pioneering aesthetic clinic in Singapore to offer cosmetic acupuncture as an alternative treatment in aesthetic goals. In Singapore and South East Asia, Dr. Puah and his team also pioneered the use of full-range quality, but affordable, liposuction and advanced body-sculpting treatments.

When asked about the most common treatments that clients request, Dr. Puah said, “Liposuction was and is still in hot demand.” Adding that other common treatment also include high-definition body sculpting, fat transplantation to breasts, and male breast reduction. In addition, Dr. Puah said that it is surprising how many men are choosing Botox and fillers these days.

Challenge And Achievements Go Hand In Hand

Staying at the top of one’s game does come with its own challenges – and even more so in the aesthetic industry. Dr. Puah does this with three things – to evolve, improve, and improvise his surgical skills. On top of that, there’s also the consistent delivery of excellent client service, which is and will always be a challenge in the medical aesthetic industry.

Dr. Puah was also humble when asked about his career achievements. He said, “I have not reached the pinnacle of my career yet. But most valuable is seeing the happy faces of our patients as they embark on their lives with renewed confidence and rejuvenated health after a successful treatment or procedure.”

Breaking Plastic Surgery Stigmas

There is a misconception about cosmetic surgery and aesthetic treatments, that they are all about beauty and vanity and reserved to only those who can afford it. However, Dr. Puah said that those who opt for any form of cosmetic surgery are actually looking to develop their self-confidence, which in turn, improves their social skills and way of life. “It is a journey of self-fulfillment rather than vanity.”

A Doctor’s Word Of Advice

Amaris B. Clinic puts importance into the care that they provide to each client. During consultations, it’s important that patients have the opportunity to have their questions answered to his or her satisfaction. Providing ethical and honest advice is also high up on the list – if a patient requests a cosmetic treatment that is unsuitable, it is not performed. Moreover, Dr. Puah said that it’s important that the patient has realistic expectations of the treatment that he or she will go through and to raise any concerns prior to the treatment. If a patient is apprehensive, they will advise the patient to consider other non-invasive options that may be available.

“It’s really important to have high levels of trust in the relationship between the client and the doctor. Remember, you are not just getting a technical procedure. You are really handing over your future – both aesthetic and how you feel – to an individual. I think it is very important to know about the doctor’s individual aesthetic sense, as well as his reputation,” Dr. Puah concluded.
