Designing Small Apartments With Style

Designing Small Apartments: A Basic Guide | Connected Women

Landed homes can be more expensive than condominium or apartment units, but with beautiful interiors, it can be a very good investment. Designing small apartments can be a breeze.

Though private houses have ample floor area as compared to condo or apartment units, it needs careful planning and designing to create a perfect and comfortable environment for the users. Whether it is addition and alteration works or rebuilding an entire building, designing a whole house is an overwhelming task. With the time and money invested, it is important to get everything right from the beginning until final completion.

We want to share these 10 simple interior design tips for your beautiful home:

1. Make it personal.

Your home should reflect your personality. Design it the way you would like it to be without blindly following the on-going trend or other’s opinions.

2. Maximize your space.

Create good circulation in the house without obstructing spatial or visual movements. In a bigger space, create smaller zones for various activities such as sitting, dining, watching TV or attending guests at bar area.

3. Plan your storage carefully.

Consider all your storage requirements for clothes, shoes, bags, books, and linen for each family member while designing. Storage for crockery, kitchen appliances, laundry or toiletries should not be overlooked.

4. Pay attention to furniture arrangement.

Arrange your furniture without over- crowding the room. Filling up a bigger space with lots of furniture pieces will make it look smaller.

5. Colors and textures.

Keep the colour scheme simple and use different textures, materials or mirrors to create interest. Lighter shades create spacious feeling and warm or darker shades create cozy ambience but tend to make the room look smaller.

6. Create a focal point.

Set a focal point as it will act as the center of attention. It can be an art piece, TV feature wall, an aquarium or any design feature in the living or headboard in the bedroom. Allow other items to take a secondary role as too many focalpoints will create visual noise.

7. Edit your collectibles.

Only retain the pieces which are timeless and which will lift your spirit. By over-crowding the room with many pieces, your beautiful furniture and accessories can end up looking lost and out-of-place.

8. Don’t go overboard with the theme.

Restricting too much to the design theme or color creates monotony and lack of interest in design. Add fun and creativity to your décor by adding an accent design feature, a wall-art or a furniture piece.

9. Add layers of lighting.

Proper illumination can completely change the overall ambience you want. Depending upon your preference you can select warm, white, and colorful or combination of various lighting sources to set up the mood instead of a single overhead light fixture.

10. Go green.

Add beauty of nature to your outdoor patios, terraces, or cheer up lonely corners inside the room by putting plants.
