Connected Women was chosen as one of the 80 global finalists in the recently-concluded RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) Future Work Awards 2019 in recognition of global organizations currently “helping people create better ways to work in a flexible, frequently changing digital economy.”

As one of the finalists, Connected Women has earned a spot in RSA’s map of Future Work innovations around the world.

Helping Filipino women find remote work opportunities

CEO and Co-founder Gina Romero grew up with an OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker) mother in the UK where she witnessed the situation for many OFW women. Many of whom had to leave their children in the Philippines to seek better opportunities abroad.

This heartbreaking reality is what led her to create Connected Women — a startup platform that matches Filipino women remote workers with women entrepreneurs around the world, looking to hire virtual assistants. Through the community it has built, women entrepreneurs, freelancers, and professionals also get to share, connect, and learn together.

Connected Women took advantage of “telecommuting” so those considering to work abroad no longer have to choose between their careers or leaving their families. Likewise, Connected Women gets to support women entrepreneurs manage their businesses by helping them find qualified and hardworking virtual assistants.

Currently, Connected Women regularly holds volunteer-driven global meetups that encourage collaboration and networking. In partnership with Facebook’s #SheMeansBusiness and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), they trained over 1,000 Filipino women on digital marketing.

About the RSA Future Work Awards

“The RSA Future Work Awards 2019 recognises the most innovative and inspiring approaches to work from around the globe, from people redesigning how to work with robots, groups of self-employed freelancers sharing their incomes, new approaches to lifelong learning and trade unions which give voice to young workers in the gig economy.”

With RSA Future Work Centre as its host and Barclays as its sponsor, hundreds of organizations worldwide participate in the Awards. It requires public nomination and an internationally renowned panel of business leaders, social innovators, impact investors, policy advisers, and activists are part of the judging/selection process.

Among 400 nominations, Connected Women made it to the 80 finalists in the final round.

Connected Women is now profiled on RSA’s explorable map and database, alongside other finalists who “foster a community of innovators and spread great ideas.”
