A Special Tea Session With Elim Chew In Support Of Hope For One Voice

Hope For One Voice, a song written Elim Chew, sung by Miguel Antonio and featuring Jessica Reynoso was released November of last year to fundraise for the children of Tacloban at the SOS Home who are host to a kinship program for children greatly affected by Yolanda. The goal is to “see the children thrive despite their tough environment. Stay strong, bold, and keep having hope.”

It devastated the nation, and the world heard their cries. It has been over two years since one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded hit Southeast Asia, tearing apart not only the land and its infrastructures but whole families. But today is not about the past, it is about a new future, and hope.

Elim Chew, renowned self-made millionaire of Singapore was given a vision late one night five years ago of children clinging to logs in the darkness of a flood, crying out for help. The words she heard were, “I heard your one voice” and she quickly penned it down before it vanished.

After muddling with it for a few days, she sent her notes to Cat Ong, a dear friend and singer-songwriter who then put the words to a medley. Then a young Filipino boy from Singapore sang it so perfectly that Elim could not keep it a secret. That same young man, Miguel Antonio, then sang it to a massive audience in Los Angeles and received a standing ovation.

It was time to take the song of hope to the next level, and a music video was shot in Tacloban, Philippines almost two years after the devastation of typhoon Yolanda. The words resounded with adults there who remembered very vividly seeing children, youth, and parents alike clinging on to whatever they could find. Tears softly streamed down their face and it was then that Elim knew that this was truly meant for the people of Tacloban. The vision, the song, the strife, and the new hope the children had despite their loss and trauma also refreshed and humbled the BMBX team shooting the video.

Ultimately it is a song of “restoration of life and hope to people who need it.”
