5 Ways You Can Support Fair Trade To Create Opportunities For Others

It should be everyone’s goal in life to excel in the world while helping those around them and doing good for the community. One of the best ways you can help others is to create opportunities for them, and what most people don’t know is that the average person can create a ton of opportunities with every product they purchase, even if they are on a tight budget. One might wonder how that is possible … the answer is fair trade products.

Fair trade products not only create opportunities and have a positive impact on society but they are also light on your pocket, are amazingly crafted and offer great value for money. Here are some of the most effective ways to support fair trade:

1. Start With One Product

They say the journey of a thousand steps begins with just one, and they are certainly right. Switching to ethical shopping abruptly is a transition that not many can cope with. This is the reason why you should always take things slow, at least at the beginning. To get into the habit of shopping ethically, all you need to do is ethically shop for any one product that you need, and then another product, and then another, and so on until you gradually develop a habit of shopping for whatever you need, ethically.

2. Check To See If Fair Trade Versions Of Products Are Available

To be able to create opportunities for those who deserve them with every single purchase, you need to make looking for fair trade versions of the products you are interested in a mandatory part of your shopping routine. More often than not, a fair trade version of the product you want to buy will be available if you search stores (both online and real-life) hard enough.

3. Purchase Outfits Made By Ethical Brands

Before purchasing a specific outfit, you need to make sure that you know where it is from and exactly who has made it. Only buy outfits made by ethical brands: brands that ensure that their employees are provided with a safe working environment and are capable of supporting their families and communities. The only way a person will feel good about any outfit that they purchase is if they know that it not only meets their values and standards but is also from an ethical brand that believes in fair trade.

4. Only Buy Gifts Made By Fair Trade Artisans

Fair trade artisans are doing something unique and meaningful, which is why they deserve all the opportunities and support that people can give them. When you purchase gifts made by fair trade artisans, not only do you have an amazing present to give to someone but you also make a positive impact on society.

5. Decorate Your Favorite Space With Ethical Decorations

For those who have recently moved to a new home or simply want to give their living space a makeover, you can find elegant, beautiful, decorative and highly functional fair trade items – and create opportunities for others at the same time.

Ratri Maria

Ratri Maria is Indonesian by birth and spent her formative years in Jakarta before moving to Singapore to continue her studies. She worked for a number of years as a marketing & brand consultant, which gave her an opportunity to travel across the globe & explore new cultures and environments. On all of these travels she always encountered unique pieces of fashion & craft pieces made by local artisans/community to sustain their livelihood. Sadly, very few people beyond the local area were aware of these beautiful creations. This inspired her to think of ways  to bring these creations to larger audiences.

The idea came to fruition earlier this year, with the launch of The Nomadic Trails. The Nomadic Trails is a curated online marketplace which lets customers find & buy fashion and livings items made by designers/artisans, who believe in social and environmental ethics, from across the globe through a single platform.

Ratri believes in a business with purpose. The Nomadic Trails aims to reconnect the missing link between the designers and customers. Through this platform, artisans & designers can share their passion, techniques, and journeys of their creations directly to the costumer. The hope is also this direct link between customer and artisan will make the purchase more unique and fulfilling for customers as well.
