Day In The Life Of A Woman Professional Makeup Artist

Rachel Cadiz didn’t discover her love for makeup until she got married and had children. In this Day In The Life Of A Woman article, she shares her shift towards a career in professional makeup and entrepreneurship and why she hits the gym almost every single day.

It wasn’t until I got married and started having children when I began discovering myself and what I love doing. Years ago, when my kids were still young, my world revolves around them but as they were growing up, I got the chance to have a lot of more “me time” and thus began my self-exploration journey.

This led me to the path of glamor, makeup, and entrepreneurship. It was the biggest paradigm shift of my life—from a traditional stay-at-home-mom to a professional makeup artist and an entrepreneur, armed only with my passion and determination to pursue such a path.

Today, I’m giving you a preview of what a typical day for me is like now that my kids are all grown up.

7:00 A.M. – I usually wake up at this hour. I fix my bed and then I pray.

7:30 A.M. – I prepare breakfast for myself. Usually, it’s just a glass of meal replacement shake and some pandesal, a typical Filipino bread.

8:00 A.M. – I love to cook. So early in the morning, I prepare things to buy and what to cook for lunch for my family.

9:00 A.M. – For my accessories buy-and-sell business, I compute and follow-up orders and collectibles.

10:00 A.M. – I prepare and cook lunch for my family.

11:00 A.M. – I join my husband for an early lunch as he needs to leave for work at 12 noon.

12:00 NN – It’s bath time for me.

1:00 P.M. – Time to squeeze in a nap time.

3:00 P.M. – I use this time to do some online selling for my accessories business.

4:00 P.M. – Time for a quick snack before I hit the gym.

5:00 P.M. – I go to the gym. I do boxing at least three times a week and brisk walking twice a week.

8:00 P.M. – It’s dinner time with my kids.

9:00 P.M. – It’s time to check my kids’ assignment.

10:00 P.M. – I do more online selling before calling it a day.

11:00 P.M. – Time to hit the sack.

What is the most challenging part of your job or day?

This quote from William H. McRaven is one of my favorites: “If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.” This is how I challenge myself to kick start my day with the right mindset. However, waking up is one of the hardest things in the world for me because I usually stay up late. No thanks to social media for always keeping me up late and engaged, haha. The hardest part in waking up is convincing your mind within the next couple of seconds to go and or give in to the question, “Should I sleep another extra hour?” It feels like I have two people fighting against each other. But whenever I have this internal discourse, I just think of that power phrase about changing the world by making your bed and that’s it. That’s enough to pump me up for the day.

What do you like most about your job or business?

As a mother, my priority will always be my children’s health, safety, and well-being. And as a wife, my priority will always be my husband. This is what I love about my job because I can be a good mother, a wife to my husband, and at the same time, a makeup artist and an entrepreneur without compromising my obligations to my family. Since I’m not into the corporate world, I have the flexibility of time to do things in my pace. And I can work whenever I want. I’m the boss of my time.

What’s something you do during the night to refresh yourself before another busy day?

I guess my brain works better at night after an endorphin-pumping workout.  I head to the gym almost every day or at least three times a week. And it’s usually in the late afternoon until night to keep me fit and in shape because sometimes it is necessary for the industry where I’m in—to look good and maintain a youthful, healthy appearance. Apart from taking care of your body, your skin is equally important, Working out is the key to a perfect glow. So before retiring to bed, I always make time to do my skin regimen right. There is nothing in our life that is more valuable than your health–that is what I always say.
