Why You Should Pole Dance To Lose Your Post-Pregnancy Weight

 

I thought the first 3 months of pregnancy were tough. Morning sickness and the likes. Well, that was not until I came home and had to function like a normal person with 5 hours max sleep per night. Now that is intense, much more than the first 3 months of morning sickness.


Give me the morning sickness again anytime, I won’t complain about it, promise! So I thought from now on it will get only easier, right?

Well who was I kidding? After 7 months I still don’t fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes…And I have been really making an effort to eat clean. I drastically cut my sugar intake. I hardly ever touch a glass of alcohol. I drink tons of water. I juice. I follow raw, vegan, healthy food blogs and try these recipes at home. I have easy access to the best fruits and vegetables in Singapore. I go for daily long walks with the pram in the evenings, practise once a week with a Pilates instructor, pick up, put down, pick up and put down again and again my 9kg baby. I really should have toned arms by now! And a tight butt. It’s unfair.

So I picked up a new sport, in the hopes that it would fire up some new magic core muscles and give me that lean and toned body. I chose pole dancing. Yes, why not. You should have seen my husband’s smile when I told him. There was a sparkle in his eyes!

You should have seen me at the first class, and the second, and the third, desperately hanging on to the pole, whilst trying to look sexy at the same time. One thing for sure is that I had fun. So much that I will soon start level 2.



Did I lose weight and tone up? Probably, but the real lesson has been that little by little, I learnt to like my reflection in the mirror again. The reflection of a real woman with hips and boobs, who had a baby not so long ago, and who is just having fun and leaves the workout room with a smile, energized to look after the 9kg bundle of love waiting at home.

As for the clothes, I just went to buy a couple of bigger size shorts for now, it’s not that big a deal if it takes a little longer than I was hoping for.
