Teachable: Make And Sell Your Own E-Course The Easy Way

E-books are going out the window because people either don’t have the time to stare at their digital devices on their down time, or they prefer a physical book (paper page smell included). However, if you’ve been paying attention to the internet, then you’ll know that non-traditional education is on the rise.

Sites such as SkillShare, tutorials on YouTube, and now one that I am personally excited to use: Teachable (formerly known as Fedora).

Teachable is an online platform where you can line up your own e-courses and teach just about anything. One of the best parts is that it’s free and so easy to use for those doing the teaching and also for anyone learning. It also has a clean and simple interface, which is definitely a bonus since I’m one of those less-is-more-kind-of-folks.

Why E-Courses Are Winning Hearts

  1. Once someone signs up for your e-course, they can take it at their own pace. They can log in to their Teachable account, see their progress, look over something again, and keep learning from where they left off.
  2. E-courses are far more actionable than e-books i.e. if your course comes with a daily action tip, students are more likely to do it right there and then.
  3. The learning is more structured, and applied. If you use the right format(s) to deliver your course, it can also be more interactive.

So let’s look at all the goodness that Teachable is, and I’m pretty sure you’ll be planning your first e-course by the time we’re done!

Customise Your Space

You can brand your Teachable account by changing the logo, theme and style to fit your own. You can also use Teachable’s domain for hosting (yourbrand.teachable.com), use your own domain name or a subdomain, so you have plenty of options! And if you know CSS or HTML code then you can do even more. But no need to fret if coding isn’t your jam because Teachable has a powerful course page editor.

Learning Tools

Not only does Teachable allow you to present your course content in several different formats (text, audio, video, PDF, and more) but the platform also boasts quizzes, forum discussions, you can collect student feedback, segment your lists, and integrate other support tools.

It’s clear this is not just a platform to host an e-course; it can also help you make the absolute most of your time and experience with your clients!

Marketing

You can host unlimited e-courses for FREE, and offer them for free (think opt-in for your newsletter), or you can charge what you want per course. You can host promotions, create coupon codes for your teachings, and even sell your content solo, in bundles or make clients pay a monthly or annual subscription.

To make more sales, Teachable even offers you a “conversion-optimised” landing page, or you can make your own while accepting international currencies to further the reach of your expertise.

Another marketing feature I love on Teachable is that you can create an affiliate program; that means you can have other folks you know and love share info about your course and, if someone buys through their link, they get a share. You reach new audiences and your partner gets a little bonus for helping you get the word out; total win-win!

You’ve Got To See Teachable For Yourself

As mentioned in my introduction, Teachable has a TON of amazing features, which also span into analytics, hosting, and services. They have top security to safeguard your students’ info, 24/7 monitoring so your course should never experience downtime, and have a comprehensive dashboard so you can understand where your students are coming from, which of your courses are the most popular, and so on.

I could literally go on about Teachable all day long; I love them and I know you will, too!

Go check out their features page right now, stalk every example they offer, and start building your e-course for a newsletter opt-in, or price it and sell it as another product. Just remember: every single piece of your course should offer value to your students. Be helpful, stay relevant, and you’ll be climbing to the top of your industry!
