Don’t Plan Your Travel This Summer

This is that time of the year when we all are looking forward to a deserving break in the form of a holiday. All the mandatory things are usually done – flight tickets, hotel and ‘must-see’ attraction bookings. But are we sure that we have looked into the most important part – fun?

At the end of the day, a holiday is more of an experience than a To-Do list of things. Have you ever thought of planning travel with an interesting arty agenda? Although it may sound like only Museums and Galleries, there is actually much more to that.

Culture: No matter what your destination is, every place has its own culture. Luckily, Culture is a broad term that encompasses a plenty of things. You can plan your itinerary to experience at least some part of it. For example, when we visited Spain last year, it wasn’t possible to include everything. But on taking a local’s suggestion, we witnessed a lively and memorable Flamenco show.

Local Life: To fit in the must-see attractions in our holiday, we tend to miss out on cherishing the true essence of the place. It is a good idea to read the blogs by travellers or locals about your destination that will provide you with an insight to anything -- from a local eating joint to a marketplace. For instance, we discovered the ethereal taste of a local drink called Ginjinha in Lisboa and savoured a genuine one at a local joint!

Museums/Galleries: Discovering a whole new world different from ours always makes for an interesting adventure. Although visiting a museum is often marked with a 'boring' tag, it is possible to turn it around. Do your research about the place so that you get to see what you like and are interested in. Secondly, it is better to have an audio guide at least so that you can understand and appreciate the artifacts better. Last but not the least, it is better to arrive at the opening hours and spend at least half-a-day to cherish it.

Holiday is about a break which, when combined with exposure to a range of different things, can turn out to be truly magical and worthwhile. So, don’t plan your travel this summer. Just plan an experience!
