A Day In The Life Of A Creative Design Specialist

Design specialist and multimedia marketer Jemmarie Bocalbos uses her expertise in helping people improve their products and services. Read on to take a peek into a slice of her productive life.

I have always loved arts and crafts, as well as drawing, designing, and writing. As a child, I made accessories and sold them to my classmates in school. In sixth grade, I concentrated on honing my drawing skills due to my love for gaming and anime. I’m fortunate to be surrounded by supportive friends. This led me to study multimedia arts in college.

I held a lot of jobs after I graduated from college. I worked as a web developer for a multi-level network marketing company; a digital marketing manager for a women’s shoe brand; and as a freelance marketing professional. Today, I am working a full-time office-based job as a creative design specialist. I am also a part-time instructor at the Creative Nation Academy, a contributor for Social Media Academy, and admin for Social Media Manager and Growth Hackers. On top of all these, I still take on freelance jobs related to design and marketing.

My background in multimedia and marketing has helped develop my creativity and communication skills, which is a perfect combination for businesses in my opinion.

I don’t have a fixed schedule since I take opportunities as they come but here is a snapshot of my weekday schedule for the past few months.

9:00 A.M. – I usually get up at this time.

9:30 A.M. – Start my day by playing with my dog.

10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. – Work on my freelance projects. I have a bite of breakfast and lunch in between tasks.

1:30 P.M. – Take a bath and prepare to go to my office.

2:00 P.M. – Commute to work.

3:00 P.M. – Meet up and spend quality time with my special person.

4:00 P.M. – Start my office job.

7:00 P.M. – Take a break for dinner.

8:00 P.M. – 1:00 A.M. – Continue working on my tasks.

1:00 A.M. – Log off from work and take the shuttle going home.

2:00 A.M. – Browse the internet and check my social media accounts as my way to wind down before going to bed.

2:30 A.M. – Lights out!

Do The Hustle, But Don’t Forget To Give Back
What I like the most about my career path is the fact that it keeps me curious and motivated to learn. The design and marketing industries are both fast-paced industries that evolve a lot in a short period of time, especially with technology. There is always something new to learn.

I also love being able to share my learnings and experiences. I am scared of being forgotten after I am gone. We have to understand that humans are only mortal creatures and eventually, we will reach the end of our lifespan. But I’ve realized that the way I can leave my legacy is by sharing. I share my experiences, thoughts, insights, and what I am learning with other people through the power of social media.

Keeping It Social
My favorite social networking site right now is Facebook. It is very flexible and all sorts of content can be shared from text to images to videos. I am the kind of person who likes sharing all sorts of things and Facebook enables me to do that.

What is your favorite quote and why?
My personal mantra is “Think Positive”. Growing up, I was mostly pessimistic although people often say I don’t sound or look like a pessimistic person now. That is because I kept on practicing and repeating the “Think Positive” mantra. Things are not always rainbows and butterflies but still, if you put in the effort to see the good things and be thankful, life will definitely change for the better.

I also like Nike’s slogan “Just do it”. I believe it’s better to do something than regret not doing it later on.
