As soon as you turn off your morning alarm, do you sluggishly turn over and check your Facebook messages or Instagram feed?

Or perhaps you are one those people who will start watching a video on Youtube to get yourself out of bed?

Every morning we make a choice: A choice to to feed our mind – or deplete our mind.

The subconscious mind is more powerful than we know, especially in the morning. Its openness and receptivity is just like a cell phone, trying to pick up a signal.

One of the simplest ways you can add more joy and peace to the rest of your day is by not checking social media first thing in the morning.

Below Are Three Reasons Why You Need To Stop Waking Up To Social Media:

1.Your Subconscious Mind Picks Up Everything

When you check social media first thing in the morning, you have absolutely no control regarding what you’re going to see.

Will it be Donald Trump getting rid of healthcare, or Brad and Angelina getting a divorce?

Whatever it is, you don’t need to subject yourself to negativity first thing in the morning. According to research conducted by Dr. Marcus Raichle at Washington University, the constant chatter of subconscious thoughts that are on replay in our minds could lead to disease if they are negative, or success if they are positive.

Why contribute to the negative subconscious thoughts first thing in the morning, especially when you can help it?

2. You’re Feeding Your Ego

Social media can reinforce separation. You are a separate self, and other people are separate from you.

This illusion feeds the ego in a big way, especially first thing in the morning. For many people, when we look at social media we can go into a state of comparison or judgement—of others or of ourselves.

To have one judgmental thought first thing in the morning is like drinking a sip of Coca-Cola the second we get up. We may not feel the effects right away, but later on in the day we might notice that we’re craving more sugary foods.

It’s the same with social media: A trickle-down effect.

If we feed our ego with social media first thing in the morning, there’s a chance it will continue to require feeding throughout the day.

This can cause us to think more judgmental thoughts, compare ourselves to others, and be in a state of separation from others. We then start to have more encounters and situations where it feels as if people are against us.

Have you ever noticed that sometimes in the morning, you feel as if people are against you? Maybe more people are cutting you off when you’re driving, or people are pushing you on the train.

Thoughts come up, such as “Who do they think they are?”, or “How dare they?” It almost feels as if people are doing these things on purpose to ruin your day.

Whatever the case may be, you’re experiencing a state of reality where you are separate from everyone else.

3. Willpower Is Highest In The Morning, So Start Strong

According to researchers at the University of Nottingham and the National Institute of Education in Singapore, “The longer the day goes on, the more fatigue your self-control experiences, the more important it is to make those early morning hours count’”

If you start off your day with social media, there is a good chance you will spend more time on it throughout the day.

If you’re someone like me who likes to be productive and get the most out of your day, this can waste a lot of your precious time – time that could be used to spend with friends or family, time you could use making your dreams a reality.

Why not make everyday count towards being the best version of yourself?

As someone who can have tendencies towards addictive behaviour, I’ve been on both ends of the spectrum.

I’ve started many days drinking that social media cola first thing in the morning – and I’ve also experienced first-hand the powerful changes that occur with a healthier mental drink upon waking up.

Not checking social media first thing in the morning has positively changed my life.

I feel more happy, peaceful, and productive throughout my day. I feel so much more connected and understanding towards people since I’ve kicked this habit.

Not sure about this? Try not to not plug into your social media first thing tomorrow morning by remembering the way it can change your day, and eventually the trajectory of your life.

Instead of mindlessly browsing and getting absorbed in a bubble where time escapes you, why not spend those 10, 20, or 30-plus minutes doing something that feeds your mind, body, and soul?

Try a few minutes of meditation, yoga, or just enjoying a cup of coffee or tea while listening to some soothing music or a great book on Audible.

Each morning, choose to unplug from social media – and plug into life.

Before becoming an entrepreneur, I worked a regular eight-to-five job. Most of my mornings were spent quickly taking a shower, rushing to put on clothes, scarfing down breakfast, and heading out the door.

After doing the same routine time and time again, I started to notice a pattern happening in the way I felt during my day. As result of this hasty start to my morning, I felt stress and anxiety – which carried onto the rest of my day. On most days, I felt depleted of energy before work had even started. I always relied on my coffee to give me a boost of energy. It was only when I started to do research on the traits of successful people did I realise they all had something in common: Most successful people have a well-thought out and organised morning routine that feeds them with positivity, clarity, and energy for their mind, body, and soul.

Over the past year of implementing my morning routine, I have come to understand and cherish the importance of waking up early. My mornings have become such a special and sacred time for me to connect to myself and my purpose. When I don’t wake up early and fail to complete my morning routine I feel out of sync, unmotivated, sluggish, and groggy. Making a conscious effort to feed and nourish my mind, body, and soul each day brings me feelings of productivity, peace, and happiness. I also feel a sense of excitement for what the day will bring.

Are you ready to have an amazing day? Below are four things you need to add to your morning routine to make your day more peaceful and joyful:

Set Intentions For Your Day

The famous Benjamin Franklin had an inspiring morning routine that started with a question. Every day he would ask himself: What good will I do today? This powerful and positive intention led his day into productivity and greatness. When we set out with a question in the morning, the subconscious mind looks to fulfil that intention. If your intention is to be the greatest version of yourself, your subconscious mind will find ways to achieve this. Here are some examples of intentions you can use when trying to start your morning –

How can I be the kindest, happiest, most energetic, most confident, and clearest version of myself for the benefit of others and myself?

How can I enjoy life more today?

How can I help more today?

Feed Your Mind Positivity

Every morning, take a moment to feed your mind with positivity that will change the course of your day. For me, I’ll often have an inspiring book waiting for me on the coffee table. I will make an effort to read one page of this book. The act of reading something inspirational feeds my mind with something positive right as I get up. I can’t tell you what a difference this has made in regards to my day, and it takes less than three minutes. When you read something positive first thing in the morning, your day takes a turn for the better.

When researching the famous motivational speaker Tony Robbin’s morning routine, I found out that he writes down three things he’s grateful for every morning. Big or small, he does this every morning to feel joyful. “The reason I picked gratitude is because when you’re grateful, you can’t be angry,” he said. “And when you’re grateful, you can’t be fearful.” Feeding his mind with positivity first thing in the morning helps him to feel more joyful, which lasts for the rest of the day.

Give Your Body Nourishment

A big part of my morning routine is feeding my body something healthy in the morning. When I was a teacher and didn’t have much time, I would always make an effort to at least make a green smoothie in the morning. Now that I have more time, I’ll have the smoothie and go for a run. Former President Barack Obama runs every morning, and this is what helps him to feel energetic and clear for his day. The act of doing something healthy and nourishing for your body will last you throughout the day. You will also find that you are drawn to healthy foods during the day if you give yourself a nutritious breakfast.

Provide Presence For Your Soul

Your soul needs presence. When you’re present, you feel more happy and peaceful. Being mindful is key. So whether you’re taking a shower, brushing your teeth, or doing a meditation, the act of being conscious and present with your senses can change the course of your day. When we meditate, we are able to observe our thoughts and feel more clarity for the day ahead.

Below is a quote from Steve Jobs about meditation:

“If you just sit and observe, you will see how restless your mind is. If you try to calm it, it only makes things worse; but over time it does calm, and when it does, there’s room to hear more subtle things — that’s when your intuition starts to blossom and you start to see things more clearly and be in the present more. Your mind just slows down, and you see a tremendous expanse in the moment. You see so much more than you could see before. It’s a discipline; you have to practice it.”

Your mind, body, and soul need time to become clear, aligned, and connected. It’s so important to prioritise ourselves first thing in the morning, so we have more energy to give to others.

Building a morning routine is one of the simple things you can do for yourself that will result in a major payoff. Even if you try one of the examples listed in the morning, you’ll notice a change in your day. You will feel more peace and calm which will lead to you to have a more productive and positive day. By giving your mind, body, and soul some love, you’ll be more happy and energetic throughout your day.

To manifest your desires is a practice that takes action and patience.

Many people in our current fast-paced society think that merely taking a couple of minutes each day to imagine what they desire will get them what they want. As important it is to imagine and feel your desire, it’s equally important to take action on what it is that you want. The truth is, you need to be dedicated and devoted to what it is that you want. Whether it’s a new car or a new career, be committed. When you’re committed, there’s nothing that will stop you from receiving your desires.

Let’s say that you want to have a healthy body, with a six pack and toned arms. You can really visualise yourself with this new body, but the thought of hitting the gym four to five times a week does not appeal to you. Still, in order to get the body that you want, you’ll need to commit yourself to the physical activities that will get you the body that you dream of.

Do you have a goal or desire that you want to achieve? The first step to getting what you want is writing down the actual desire, and the process or steps you will take to achieve that desire. What is the process you need to follow in order to achieve your goal?

As I have a huge passion for helping people shine within so they can love beyond, let’s do an example together that focuses on attracting a happy and loving relationship.

Desire:

To Be In A Happy And Loving Relationship

The Process:

Create a meaningful online profile.

Sign up for different online dating sites and matchmaking sites.

Join meetup groups, or participate in activities that you’re interested in.

Give love to yourself by making positive choices that fill your mind, body, and soul.

Be happy and joyful most of the time by choosing loving and grateful thoughts.

Visualize how you want to feel in your ideal relationship.

Go on dates.

Meditate, and surrender desire to a higher power.

Keep repeating steps four, five, six, seven, and eight.

Now, it’s time to write your own desire and process.

So now that you’ve written down the process, close your eyes and visualise doing all of the things you’ve listed. Take four to five minutes and go over each part of the process. Can you imagine yourself committing 4, 5 or even 10 hours a week to the process for three to nine months?

Open your eyes. Now it’s time to decide. Are you ready to commit to your goal or desire?

If the answer is yes, continue reading.

During the process of achieving what it is that you want, you will go through many ups and downs. Things won’t always be easy, and you could have resistance. Resistance is completely normal, and you wouldn’t be human if you didn’t have it.

According to author Steven Pressfield, “The more important an activity is to your soul’s evolution, the more resistance you will feel to it – the more fear you will feel.”

Next Steps:

What may come up during your process are setbacks. Setbacks are difficulties or disappointments that can deter you from your goal or desire. Writing down and understanding your setbacks are important steps in helping you achieve your goals or desires. Below is an example of setbacks that could come into your reality when trying to attract a relationship.

Setbacks:

Envy/jealousy of people in relationships.

Dates that are lackluster, or just plain horrible.

Feeling more loneliness.

Losing hope, and feeling like you’re never going to meet someone.

Nervousness and/or anxiety before meeting new people.

Resistance to being open and vulnerable.

When you can write down and understand your setbacks, this will help you to push through when they arise. When you’re committed to the process, not even your setbacks can stop you.

Writing down what you will do when a problem occurs is a great way to conquer a setback. Having a plan in place when a setback happens will help you to have less resistance to move forward when a difficulty occurs. For example, let’s say you go on a horrible date. After the date, you could call a friend who will comfort you and remind you not to give up on your desire of being in a relationship. Understanding the monsters hiding in your closet will make it much easier to deal with when they want to come out and play.

Okay, there you have it! That’s my process whenever I want to commit to a goal or desire. Remember: It’s all about the action and patience, and understanding what your setbacks are. Dedicating to the process is necessary to achieving your goals. Resistance might creep up, but know deep inside that you’re so worthy and deserving of all your wants and desires.
