4 Tips To Regain Serenity And Avoid Anxiety

People have different ways to cope with stress and anxiety, and in severe conditions some resort to the use of prescription drugs.

But in most cases, a simple change in lifestyle and perspective towards many situations can be the most effective and side-effect-free method.

You Can Start By Following These Suggestions:

1. Slow Down Your Rhythm Of Life

If you feel stressed because you are overworked, you should consider cutting back on your obligations and duties whenever possible. Sometimes, less is more. Of course, it is easier said than done because you are responsible for completing multiple tasks on a daily basis, and today’s environment can be fast-paced and very demanding – but you will probably have some pleasant surprises if you take a closer look at your schedule. Certain tasks such as attending a meeting, having dinner with business associates, and some other activities are not always top priorities, depending on your situation. Try to delegate some of those simple and time consuming tasks to someone else you trust so you can lighten up your load. Another good thing is to set more realistic goals in life. If making a million dollars next year seems too difficult, lower your target so you can still enjoy the pleasures of life without the pressure of reaching the unattainable.

2. Reconcile Your Professional, Social, And Personal Life

It can be challenging to find balance between work, your social life, and family engagements without forgetting yourself while making connections and strengthening friendly relationships with people you know. Spending more time being surrounded by friends, family, co-workers, and people in your community can have positive effects on mental well-being, and improve your ability to cope with stressful situations. But it is so easy to get completely caught up, and commit to so many things that you have no more time for yourself. Remember to respect yourself by saying no when necessary, so you can do something you really enjoy that helps you relax. Take up a reasonable (it doesn’t have to be expensive) hobby such as gardening, painting, music, carpentry, do-it-yourself crafts, movies, or anything else that does not require you to put a lot of effort. Go for a walk, take a massage, or read a book. When you are doing something you can enjoy, your mind becomes more relaxed.

3. Stop Comparing Yourself To Others

Believe it or not, one of the easiest ways to feel bad is to start comparing yourself unfavorably to other people. Comparing your accomplishments to those of others is a losing battle. There is always someone out there who is more successful, has attained higher accomplishments, has more wealth, and seems to enjoy life better than you do. Every individual has unique abilities, and that is why you are important in your community or office. When you feel bad, remember that there are also people who are less fortunate than you are, and that should make you more grateful. A study from the University of Houston linked social comparison on social media platforms such as Facebook to depressive symptoms.

4. Introduce Simple Changes In  Your Lifestyle

“If you continue doing what you’re used to do, you will continue getting what you’re used to getting.” If your lifestyle is making you experience stress and anxiety, it may be time to reflect on what is not working for you – and make some changes. If you are not very active, introduce some physical exercise as simple as walking or basic yoga, or make the time for a five-minute meditation, relaxation, or breathing exercise – anything to help you relax! Journaling and reflecting on yourself may help to put things in perspective, and express your emotions.
